Opinicon Update — Aug. 2016

There has been so much happening at the Opinicon this year. There are over 100 staff onsite working to make the summer resort run and this summer they are doing it without the main lodge! The main building is undergoing a complete gut and overhaul. We removed asbestos and shored-up the foundation by lifting-up the entire structure.  A huge new commercial kitchen will be added as well as an entirely new section for a pub.

Each cabin has been completely remodelled on the inside — new floors, walls, bathrooms, furniture and fixtures. The exterior of the cabins have also been updated with new roofs, brick work and landscaping.

The really fun part of the rebuild though is the almost complete kids’ play area. Modelled after a public park in Germany, the Opinicon’s grounds keepers designed and built several unique play structures. There’s a lock-system where water is pumped through to tables and its flow controlled at different stations, a pillar walk, mesh climber, a-frame climbers, swings and a zip line. All these activities keep the kids interested and active for hours!

Although there has been extensive work done at the Opinicon, a lot of work is still being planned for next year, including the completion of the work to the cabins and main lodge as well as the installation of an amazing in-ground pool.
