The Story
Infill housing has existed as long as we have lived in cities, slowly integrating itself into the urban fabric; filling in the gaps can breathe life and encourage a more social community, promote a more compact lifestyle, decrease the demands on city infrastructure and motorized transport and inject life into a neighborhood. This modern infill project focuses on innovative ways to reduce cost while instilling useful features and amenities. The overarching strategy was to re-think the main factors in construction cost: labour, building size/square footage, and materials to maximize the return on the construction dolor. This modern Ottawa home also deals with the recent live / work trends buy allowing for a functional at home office and not compromising the privacy of the residence. Located on a 21’x88’ lot this modern infill located in the heart of Ottawa provides a front porch to animate the street, open air carport to eliminate the need for a garage, roof top patio and green roof, interior garden and large operable skylight to bring light into the core of the home, and movable walls / partitions to promote flexible spaces.
