When designing on a cottage on the mountain, we wanted to pay attention to and pay respect to the topology of the site as well as thoughtful integration of the built structure within the site.

As such, the A-Frame was a perfect fit. The rising and falling of the roof of the cottage mimics and complements the the rise and fall of the mountains behind it.

Another reason that the A-Frame was chosen for this cottage is the history of the structure and the simplicity which it exudes. This simplicity, to us, represents a thematic connection with the idea of a cottage - a simple structure to provide escape. We view heading to the cottage as a transformative experience of transitioning from busy city life to a more simple perspective.
